Bill's GTE Car Critique

More

A new driver asked the question one night "which car is best to start with." I have raced them all except for the Ford, but I have lots of laps in it too. So, with that said here is my list. This evaluation is with the iRacing Baseline setting with the TC setting set to 3/4 of support. I like a little more TC for my lack of throttle control.

1: Ferrari: Nice neutral balance, good through the middle of corners and most forgiving of mistakes, such as overdriving a corner.
2. Corvette: Similar feel to the Ferrari. Good off the corners, not quite as forgiving as the Ferrari but it's a close second
3. Ford: Not very popular but it's a very good car. Nice neutral feel. I normally drive the Ferrari at Sebring, but this car is a close second there for me.
4. Porsche: I really like this car. It’s the one I drive the most, but it takes some getting use to. You will suffer if you overdrive it (think Australian V8) Very good middle to off corner, but if you overdrive on corner entry you are going off track!
5. BMW: There are guys that are really fast in this car. I'm not one of them. It's the only front engine car in the class, so it turns in really well, problem is too much wheel input, and you are going to spin the car out. If you have high skills, and good car control you will be fast in this one.

Keep in mind this is my view of the cars based on my skill level and style of driving.

I don't know enough about any of them. I'm just trying to get used to the Corvette and running these courses. I appreciate anyone sharing what they understand about these cars. It's very helpful. What would be really cool is to find a tutorial video on how to drive specific cars.

Nice write up. I need to try the Ferrari and Corvette. BOP seems to favor the corvette this season. Our top 5 is typically all vettes for example. Maybe a coincidence?
